Another Canada Day, eh?
This year feels unsettling with everything happening around us. The global political climate, the increasingly unaffordable cost of living, and the rising opposition of immigration within the country.
Canada has always been a nation of immigrants. Today, I joined the celebration crowd in downtown Nanaimo, where our mayor spoke about how 41 percent of Canada's population are either first or second-generation immigrants.
I am quite surprised, and am also grateful that a mid-sized town like ours not only recognizes immigrants' contributions but also demonstrates the welcoming spirit on the Canada Day celebration.
In fact, according to the 2021 census, the number above should be 44%.
In the picture, a little boy waves the Canadian flag during "O Canada." Outside the frame, people held many other flags from different countries in the parade.
Today, I feel especially proud to be in this career and to contribute to positive changes in the immigration journey of Canada's future generations.
